Be fucking awesome

The guy’s nailed it.

The Short and Sweet Guide to Being Fucking Awesome

Just fucking read it. Fucking now already.

See!

Fucking awesome.

Seriously fucking awesome.

If you’re totally motivated by that and are ready to join the Cult of Awesome then please quit reading here, I don’t wanna mess with that. The rest is for the people like me that are cursed with over analyzing everything.

I was pretty much sucked all the way in until right at the end when he uses the word ‘cult’. Whether he meant it or not, to me it’s a word that carries negative connotations, ringing a bell in my mind and snapping me back to reality. It made me feel that his attitude, whilst powerfully motivating also carries a certain swagger of arrogance, like as if changing your whole life’s philosophy was as easy as going for a stroll in the park. And then it ended. I was left feeling that he didn’t tackle the reality of the fact that rewiring your brains circuitry is amongst the most difficult challenges a person can face. I get the whole Yoda speech about “Do or do not, there is no try”, and I subscribe to that, but it should come with a disclaimer that reads “tough it will really fucking be, and long ass time it will take”. Then maybe a second disclaimer saying “But it’ll totally be worth it”.

Changing the fundamental ideologies by which I live my life seems about as daunting as standing at the foot of Mount Everest, staring five miles up watching it disappear into the clouds, knowing I gotta climb up to that peak. And I say that with the belief, if I may be so humble, I am already living my life not so far off the principal laws of being fucking awesome as laid out by Julien Smith. So it’s gonna be hard folks. Really really hard. And that’s my only point here.

Say we do the friends litmus test and realize they’re mostly a bunch of less-than-awesome people. Well it takes time to meet new friends and evolve new relationships. And if it’s our family members that are amongst the guilty do we cut them off? Cos that approach to me sounds kind of anti-awesome.

We can’t all just walk away from the job we hate. That’s just bat shit hippie talk. We got responsibilities. It takes time to find a new job and if we want to move into something totally new it takes a lot of time and dedication to develop a new skill and find gainful employment with it.

And when it comes to changing ourselves, with all the good intentions we might have on the surface, we’ve got decades of learned behaviors, bad habits and instinctive negative reactions that we need to undo and then relearn the new way, the correct way, the awesome way. That could take maybe into the billions of seconds.

Don’t let me put you off though. Just know it’s gonna be hard. Let’s make the effort. Put the time in. Don’t quit on the bad days. And if we ever find ourselves slipping-up, on those worst of worst days, we’ll take a long deep breath, a time out for as long as we need, and when we’re ready we’ll pick ourselves up and get back on it. Let’s become fucking awesome.

So it sounds like the first step to an awesome destiny is thinking you are awesome. I’d say you’re tracking pretty well towards that goal.
