Mismatched Shoes
Jackson dresses himself for the most part. And actually does a great job for a little tyke. Sometimes we’ll get some funky choices – head-to-toe in pull-ups or his hair covered in bamb-aids. But whatever we just roll with it, mostly he’s styling.
Today we go to leave the house so I can drive him to daycare, like I do every morning, and there he stands in mismatched shoes…. It’s not even peculiar to him, he’s always up to mischief but this wasn’t like that, he just looked at his shoes that morning and decided today it would be -
Helmet baby
When Jackson was a baby he had plagiocephaly, which is the medical term for flat head. It wasn’t obvious to the naked eye at first, but about 6 weeks in it started to develop, and about four months into his sweet little life you couldn’t miss it, even though it was a fairly mild case. You can read all the scientific hows and whys here…, in his case it seems that it initially developed due to his fetal position in the womb combined with a soft skull.
His pediatrician said that it was purely cosmetic and advised against any -
The creative age paradigm
Earlier in the year we were looking at designers to bring in on our project. We really wanted to push the envelope on what was possible within the digital space, take it somewhere new even. We looked at a lot of portfolios and talked to a bunch of different professionals. And the process reminded me a lot about last year when I was looking for developers for a similarly cutting edge project. Jacksons birthday’s coming up so I’ve been kicking around a few ideas for his party invite. It’s pretty lame I guess but it was cool how I did it all just with Firebug. Switched around some CSS values and updated some text on the page. Kinda reminds me of back in the day playing around with XSS and HTML injections – we’d mainly do it to test for security vulnerabilities, but sometimes we’d have some fun switching out the images and stuff. Balloon Death
Jackson’s turning two next month. He loves balloons. We get him a balloon every now and again and he goes nuts for it. The balloon even hangs around for days after its lost most of its helium and is just a wrinkled up pathetic version of its former self. Eventually we just put it out of its misery in the dead of night whilst he sleeps unawares. He has no problem letting a balloon die in this fashion. But one week it all went wrong. Video Slideshows With Animoto
Researching for a client recently I came across a neat little service called Animoto. The problem we had was needing a photo gallery that lives on a single page. Not a huge problem in itself and any of these… would work, or numerous others I’ve worked with or built over the years. But the issue here is the CMS we have to work with doesn’t have the ability to upload media, this has to be done separately via FTP, so it’s a messy process and not ideal to leave in the hands of the account team.
